Get Award and appreciation from PTU
Adopting a highly innovative technique, the students of Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology (KCET), Amritsar have developed an “Alcohol Detection System”, which will help the police to check drunken driving and reduce accidents. The project was part of the Startup business proposals submitted to the Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar and the proposal has been appreciated and earned cash prize from the varsity.
KCET Director-Principal Dr Manju Sharma said the project was presented as part of the varsity’s program for innovative business ideas and technologies to academicians, entrepreneurs and industrialists, gathered from all over India for Business Start Ups at PTU campus, a few months earlier. “The event was jointly organized by TIE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) Chandigarh and IKGPTU Kapurthala and 150 teams from different Colleges of Punjab participated in the event”, said Dr. Sharma.
She added that a team comprising of four students, namely Amritpal Singh, Anureet Kaur, Jaskirat Singh and Neha; all from Computer Science and Engineering department, presented the Alcohol Detection System. They were accompanied by teacher and their coordinator Er. Prabhdeep Singh, Assistant Professor, CSE.
The idea behind the project is the use of novel use of computer technology to install a device in the car or vehicle, which detects alcohol and the ignition of the vehicle wil stop on its own. The vehicle will not start at all. “Since drunken driving is one of the major cause of accidents and spreading awareness isn’t just enough, the technology will help out and purpose of such creation of such a system is to discourage driving under the influence of alcohol”, said Director-Principal.
She said the device in future will help reduce road accidents and help the police to stop drunken driving. The project was so appreciated that the University will provide further support for free of cost plug and play facility and mentoring at IKG Punjab Technical University campus. She further added that this achievement of students have proved that nothing is impossible if one is fully committed and devoted to his work and even in this time of pandemic when people are facing job loss, the whole heartedness allegiance of students has shown that they can earn a living for themselves with their innovative ideas and technologies. She also congratulated the team and their coordinator.
Khalsa College Governing Council secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina also congratulated the Director and admired the efforts of team coordinator and students for this achievement. He wished the students for their bright future and motivated them to come up with more new ideas for the benefit of society and nation.
