Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) today expressed deep condolences on the demise of renowned educationist and former Principal of Khalsa College, Amritsar, Gurbax Singh Shergill who breathed his last at Dagshai in Himachal, near Chandigarh today. He was 92. He was presently member of 101 member KCGC general house and remained member of Senate of Punjab University, Chandigarh.
KCGC President Satyajit Singh Majithia send the condolence message from Delhi while honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said Shergill remained Principal of the historic College from 1975 to 1990 when the state of Punjab was passing through difficult times of militancy.
“He was highly upright man, with utmost logical mind who was one of the most successful Principals of 128-years-old College”, said Chhina adding that services of Shergill to education would be remembered for all the times to come. Principal, KCA Dr. Mehal Singh also expressed heart deep condolences saying he was one of the longest serving Principals and during his tenure the College progressed leaps and bounds.
Shergill who remained Chairman of Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), Mohali had been a freedom fighter during his students days at Khalsa College and remained President of Sikh Students Federation also. His health was down for the last many months.
