ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ, 25 ਮਈ ()¸ਹਾਕੀ ਦੇ ਉਚ ਕੋਟੀ ਦੇ ਖਿਡਾਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਵਾਰ ਓਲੰਪਿਕ ਜੇਤੂ ਰਹੇ ਸ: ਬਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਦੇ ਅੱਜ ਮੋਹਾਲੀ ਵਿਖੇ ਅਕਾਲ ਚਲਾਣਾ ਕਰ ਜਾਣ ‘ਤੇ ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ ਕਾਲਜ ਗਵਰਨਿੰਗ ਕੌਂਸਲ, ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲਜ਼, ਸਟਾਫ਼ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਗਹਿਰੇ ਦੁਖ ਦਾ ਇਜ਼ਹਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਉਨ•ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਦੇ ਫੁੱਲ ਅਰਪਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ। ਉਹ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੁਝ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਸਿਹਤਯਾਬ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ‘ਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ•ਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਮਰ 95 ਸਾਲ ਸੀ। ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ 3 ਪੁੱਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਇਕ ਪੁੱਤਰੀ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਪੋਤੇ‐ਪੋਤਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਂਦਿਆਂ ਵਿਲਕਦਿਆਂ ਹੋਇਆ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ।

ਸ: ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਜੋ ਕਿ ਖ਼ਾਲਸਾ ਕਾਲਜ ‘ਚ ਸੰਨ 1942 ਤੋਂ 1945 ਤੱਕ ਬੀ. ਏ. ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀ ਰਹੇ, ਹਾਕੀ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਢਲੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਅਤ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੇ ਖੇਡ ਮੈਦਾਨ ‘ਚ ਕੀਤੀ। ਕੌਂਸਲ ਦੇ ਆਨਰੇਰੀ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਸ: ਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਮੋਹਨ ਸਿੰਘ ਛੀਨਾ ਨੇ ਦੁਖ ਦਾ ਇਜ਼ਹਾਰ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਐਵਾਰਡਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਐਥਲੀਟ ਸਨ, ਜਿਨ•ਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਉਲੰਪਿਕਸ ‘ਚ ਬਣਾਏ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਅਜੇ ਤੱਕ ਵੀ ਅਟੁੱਟ ਹਨ। ਉਨ•ਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਹਾਕੀ ਟੀਮ ਦੇ ਕਪਤਾਨ, ਕੋਚ ਅਤੇ ਮੈਨੇਜ਼ਰ ਵਜੋਂ ਵੀ ਉਨ•ਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮਹਾਨ ਉਪਲਬੱਧੀਆਂ ਸਦਕਾ ਉਨ•ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਦਮਸ੍ਰੀ ਐਵਾਰਡ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

ਸ: ਛੀਨਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ: ਬਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ 3 ਵਾਰ ਓਲੰਪਿਕ ‘ਚ ਜਿੱਤ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਕੇ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਚੈਂਪੀਅਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਮ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਨ•ਾਂ ਨੇ ਲੰਡਨ (1948), ਹੇਲਸਿੰਕੀ (1952) (ਉਪ ਕਪਤਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ) ਅਤੇ ਮੈਲਬਰਨ (1956) (ਕਪਤਾਨ ਵਜੋਂ) ਓਲੰਪਿਕ ‘ਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀਆਂ ਜਿੱਤਾਂ ‘ਚ ਮੁੱਖ ਭੂਮਿਕਾ ਨਿਭਾਈ ਸੀ। ਜਿਨ•ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਰੇਕ ਸਮੇਂ ਮਹਾਨ ਹਾਕੀ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ‘ਚੋਂ ‘ਇਕ’ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ। ਉਨ•ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ‘ਬਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੀਨੀਅਰ’ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਸੀ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਨ•ਾਂ ਦੀ ਦੂਸਰੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਹਾਕੀ ਖਿਡਾਰੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਲੱਗ ਪਛਾਣ ਉਭਰ ਸਕੇ।

ਸ: ਛੀਨਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਬਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਖੇਡ ਸ਼ਖਸੀਅਤ ਸਨ ਜਿਨ•ਾਂ ਨੂੰ 1957 ‘ਚ ਪਦਮ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਵਾਜਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਤਰਫ਼ੋਂ 1975 ‘ਚ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਹਾਕੀ ਟੀਮ ਦੇ ਮੈਨੇਜ਼ਰ ਸਨ, ਨੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵਰਲਡ ਕੱਪ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ। ਉਨ•ਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਸ: ਸੀਨੀਅਰ ਦਾ ਸਿਰਜਿਆ ਉਲੰਪਿਕ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਜਿਸ ‘ਚ ਉਨ•ਾਂ ਨੇ ਇਕੱਲਿਆ ਹੀ 5 ਗੋਲ ਕਰਕੇ 1952 ਦੀਆਂ ਉਲੰਪਿਕ ਖੇਡਾਂ ‘ਚ ਭਾਰਤ ਨੂੰ 6–1 ਫ਼ਰਕ ਨਾਲ ਜਿੱਤ ਦਿਵਾਈ ਸੀ, ਦਾ ਅਜੇ ਤੱਕ ਵੀ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਕਾਇਮ ਹੈ।

ਕਾਲਜ ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਮਹਿਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਸ: ਬਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਹ 2016 ‘ਚ ਕਾਲਜ ਦੀ ਐਲਮੂਨੀ ਮੀਟ ‘ਚ ਸ਼ਮੂਲੀਅਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕੈਂਪਸ ਪਹੁੰਚੇ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ ਹਮੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਹੀ ਇੱਥੋਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਲਸ ਰੂਮ, ਹੋਸਟਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਡ ਮੈਦਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਹ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਉਨ•ਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਜਲਦ ਹੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਖੋਜ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਊਜ਼ੀਅਮ ‘ਚ ਉਨ•ਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਤਸਵੀਰ ਲਗਾਈ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ•ਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਂਅ ‘ਤੇ ਹਾਕੀ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਐਵਾਰਡ ਵੀ ਐਲਾਨਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ।
